In the fall of 2012, the Foundation held an event that spurred some unforeseen energy, passion and action when newly appointed Foundation Board Member and El Dorado Hills resident, Georgi Knight, attended an event at which three Foundation donors expressed their philanthropic partnerships with, and admiration of, the work of the El Dorado Community Foundation. One of the presenters that evening was Allan Priest, and in a discussion with him, Georgi stated, “El Dorado Hills residents need to know about the El Dorado Community Foundation”; Allan readily agreed. That one insightful comment ignited a fire that manifested into group meetings of some key, community-minded people, all residents of that community, and the El Dorado Hills Cabinet was born.
By working in collaboration with local businesses, nonprofits, churches and individuals, this cabinet is now assisting the Foundation in building the El Dorado Hills Endowment Fund and helping to make informed, knowledgeable grants to projects and programs that directly benefit the residents of El Dorado Hills.
Shelbi Bennett | Chair
Shelbi was an elementary school teacher in the Rescue USD until she took a “short” leave of absence to raise her boys. That short leave turned into a long history of volunteer work as she raised her boys in El Dorado Hills. She and husband, Lee Bennett, have been excellent mentors for local youth in community projects and philanthropy. Those projects include but are not limited to the Mito Walk for Kids, as well as serving on their board. She also is a valuable member of The Foundation’s Board of Directors and chairs the EDH Cabinet. Her family was the creator of the Buy A Day Golf Tournament that most currently raises funds for the El Dorado Hills Endowment.
John is an attorney by profession and has brought much to the Foundation over the years. He is a former President of the Board and a founding member of the El Dorado Hills Endowment.
Jeff not only has extensive corporate background in his work with Waste Connections, but also has strong connections in all aspects of community through his volunteer work with the El Dorado Hills Chamber of Commerce, as a member, a board member and past president of that board. The combination of this background made him a strong candidate for the EDH Cabinet.
Andrea is the Principal Planner at Parker Development Company and has been with the company for over 20 years. In addition to serving The Foundation on the EDH Cabinet, she sits on three nonprofit boards: Boys & Girls Club El Dorado County Western Slope, Marshall Foundation and the El Dorado County Economic Development Corp. Andrea has developed relationships that span local government, education, youth development and says, “I have learned that contributions to others, whether monetary or gifts of time, result in positive social change and further the good of the entire community”.
There was a great news article on Betty in a recent Village Life edition. She is a bulldog when it comes to fulfilling her passions. Past passions include the building of the El Dorado Hills Library, the preservation of the historic Clarksville Cemetery, and most recently, leading discussions about a new Senior Center in El Dorado Hills. We are honored to have Betty serving on our EDH Cabinet.
Allan brings a wealth of business background to our Cabinet. His career in environmental engineering includes building a small consulting business into a worldwide firm. He currently owns a custom home and remodeling business, operates a family-owned real estate investment brokerage, is a director for the EDH CSD, sits as president of the ORHS Foundation, is a director for 3StrandsGlobal and is a Trustee for the CSD Foundation. Allan and his wife Jen are proud parents of two children.
Nikki and her husband, Doug, make it a priority to “walk the talk” as they teach their young EDH family the importance of community involvement and philanthropy. She is our lead pin in organizing our Buy A Day of Hope event. Her professional career includes consulting at Accenture and current contract work at OnCore Consulting. Nikki also stays very active with volunteer hours in school activities and the Folsom American Little League in support of her young children. All of this experience and these skills are extremely valuable to our EDH Cabinet.
